I almost transcended the doodle…

This is the most complicated ~~drawing~~ doodle I’ve done in eight months!

Although honestly it wouldn’t have taking much to earn that title – for in that whole time I have only done 1-10 minute doodles (most of which exist on the back of mounted prints that I sold throughout the year).

I will soon write a post about what I instead spent my doing throughout 2011. It’s actually quite a big deal, for it may actually facilitate me being an artist who draws more than 2 or 3 times a year. I will also be selling these daily drawings as an additional way of funding future arts.

More art and word to come very soon. Really…

‘Echo Locations’ trading cards coming out this week.

After months and months since their inception, ‘Echo Locations’ trading cards are finally coming out this week. The above card will be available this Sunday (Sept. 25) at Sac-Con (Sacramento’s comic toy anime show). Future cards in the series will come out at a rate of one or two per month. Current cards will always be free at events, my studio, or with any purchase. The back of most cards will contain a mini-story that will remain exclusive to the physical copy until the next card becomes available.

magpie wallpapers (part one)

I currently have a show up at Magpie Caterers (Market and Cafe) located in Sacramento. I like the pictures alright, but the most fulfilling aspect of the show was by far the process itself. The entire show, from concept to print, was created in a one week time period – the most artistically productive (and sleep deprived) period I have had in over a decade. The show was also drawn in a new style, and marks the first occasion in which Rebecca Roehr was my creative consultant.

I have five additional shows (5 to 7 pieces each) planned out that I would like to do for Magpie. I’m hoping that I can find the time to do at least one of them.

animation test

An animated test for one of the species from my upcoming graphic novel. This is still a work in progress – nothing is finalized.

Note: the image below is an animated gif file. the animation will begin automatically, however it may take a minute or two before the animation begins and the loop is smooth.

I’ve also included a few individuals frames to give an idea of how the species might look in print.

I intended on adding/changing a few aspects of this drawing, but I have decided to move on to new work instead.

This image was drawn with Micron and Rotring Rapidograph pens and Prismacolor Markers, and measures 18 x 24.

Draft 02.0 – I actually prefer almost every aspect of this 15-25 minute thumbnail to the 100 (or so) hour finished drawing.

Draft 01.1 – Technically speaking there is one really small sketch that precedes this draft, but I never scanned it, and I am not sure of its locale.
